Sally Whitman Coleman, PhD, produces accurate and detailed appraisals of personal property, which includes any items within an estate that have a marketable value such as fine art and artifacts, photographs, furniture, silver, porcelain and pottery, crystal, and collectibles. All appraisals are prepared in accordance with the current Uniform Standards for Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), which are the professional appraisal practice standards and guidelines as determined by The Appraisal Foundation in Washington, DC. Sally is an Accredited Member of the Appraisers Association of America. She works independently and objectively, and is not affiliated with any gallery, museum, auction house, or private dealer. Sally has the utmost consideration for clients’ confidentiality and trust.

What is a qualified appraiser?

If you need an appraisal to send to the IRS to get a tax deduction for a charitable donation or to file an estate tax, you are required to hire a qualified appraiser, which as of January 1, 2019 should be an appraiser with the appropriate experience and education. This last requirement of education indicates that the appraiser you hire should be a member of one of the three professional appraising organizations that have continuing education requirements: The American Society of Appraisers (ASA), the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), and the Appraisers Association of America (AAA).
